First Class of BuildLAX Graduates Ready to Pursue Contracting Opportunities at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Yesterday evening, the first class of small-business construction contractors graduated from Los Angeles World Airports' (LAWA) innovative BuildLAX Academy. Launched in June, BuildLAX prepares small and local business representatives to compete for bidding opportunities with prime contractors working at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The inaugural class of the eight-week program included 17 graduates who own or work at small businesses near LAX.

New Art Installations at LAX Explore Handmade and Digital Environments

Board of Airport Commissioners Approves Contract for Design of Proposed MSC South
(Los Angeles, CA) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) voted unanimously Thursday to select Woods Bagot for design services for the proposed Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) South. The value of the contract is up to $12 million.

LAX Celebrates K-9 Partners for 'Work Like a Dog Day'

(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) celebrated some of the hardest working noses in the business as part of national "Work Like A Dog Day," with demonstrations and a class photo featuring canines from Los Angeles Airport Police (APD), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). A total of nine dogs showed off their skills at Tom Bradley International Terminal, demonstrating various detection and training techniques with their handlers.

Ballet Beyond Borders' International Dancers Surprise LAX Guests with Performances in Two Terminals
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) surprised airport guests at Tom Bradley International Terminal and Terminal 4 with ballet, contemporary and hip-hop performances as well as ethnic dances by Ballet Beyond Borders' dancers from Brazil, Italy, Mexico and the U.S. Dancers from 25 countries will also be flying in to LAX to take part of a global cultural dance challenge and diplomacy conference, which will be held in Los Angeles for the first time.

LAWA COMPLETES 'SHOOFLY' TO ALLOW FOR THROUGH TRAFFIC DURING CONSTRUCTION OF 98TH STREET EXTENSION

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, as part of its Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) to transform how people access Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officially opened to vehicle use an auxiliary road called a “shoofly” on Aviation Boulevard between Arbor Vitae Street and Century Boulevard. The shoofly, one of several enabling projects that are preparing LAX and the surrounding streets for heavy construction, will allow the flow of traffic between Century Boulevard and Arbor Vitae Street to be maintained during construction of the future extension of 98th Street.

LAX Volunteers, Including 40-Year Veteran, Recognized at Annual Luncheon
